Glasbauspiel designed by German designer Bruno Taut, re-issued exclusively by Vitra.
Taut dreamed of a glorious utopian vision of the Earth "adorned with sparkling jewels and enamel" as glass architecture supplanted masonry; this from his 1914 book, Glass Architecture.
Today we can celebrate the Taut vision by can making his vision a miniature reality. The incredible set contains 64 glass blocks in five basic beveled shapes. The Glasbauspiel is housed within an octagonal wood case that Taut also designed. (You may insist on keeping it there - until your kids hit puberty.) |
